State chief secretary Jayant Banthia had, at a meeting held at the Mantralaya on Tuesday, expressed displeasure over the exemption being granted to government vehicles with tinted glasses, even as more than 1.07 lakh drivers in the city have been fined till June 30.

At the meeting attended by traffic heads, representatives of transport department and chief secretary among others, Banthia issued a circular demanding action against offenders, said sources.

Vivek Phansalkar, joint commissioner of police (traffic), said, “While 15 vehicle owners were fined on Wednesday, 14 were penalised on Thursday. We urge people to avoid putting tinted films on their vehicles. The rule is applicable to everybody, except those exempted for security reasons.”

When asked about police vehicles with tinted films, Phansalkar said, “The deputy commissioner of police (motor transport department) was asked to rid police vehicles of tinted films long ago. Work on that front is in progress. Police vehicles with tinted films, too, will not be spared.”

Sailesh Sharma, principal secretary (transport) said that the traffic police and the state’s transport department will initiate joint action against vehicles with tinted films.

“The three regional transport offices in the city will form a squad each comprising traffic and transport officials. The squads will be dedicated to taking action against tinted films. The departments will also continue to act on individual level,” said Sharma.
