The police said the incident took place around 5pm when the victim, Adnan Rafiq Shaikh, is a resident of the Abdul Rasool slum area located at Gilbert Hill in Andheri (West).

Shaikh had gone to the Bhavan's College compound along with his brother to feed his goat.

Three unidentified men who were already sitting there called Adnan and started hurling abuses at him.

When Adnan argued with them, the three attacked him with a sharp object and snatched the gold chain he was wearing worth Rs 30,000 and a mobile phone worth Rs 10,000, following which the men fled from the spot.

Adnan sustained grievous injuries on his face, chest and thighs.

His younger brother immediately rushed to Adnan to the Cooper Hospital and then informed his family about the incident.

Adnan is undergoing treatment, the police said.

"The spot is frequented by drug addicts. The men who attacked Adnan were also drug addicts," said V Bhoite, senior inspector of DN Nagar police station.

"We have registered a case of assault and theft against the trio," added Bhoite.
