The accused, Shah Aalam Rehman alias Heera and his co-worker Rehmat Mansuri had been employed with the E-Square Tailors at Pakmodia Street in south Mumbai for a few months and both lived at the tailoring shop. The two had been at loggerheads for a while.

“Mansuri was senior in the profession but Rehman thought his work was not up to the mark. But it was Rehman who was reprimanded frequently for performing poorly and being an alcoholic,” said Shashikant Surve, senior inspector of JJ Marg police station. “This led to a fight between them, following which Rehman stabbed Mansuri on right side of his forehead with a pair of scissors. He then took a piece of cloth and strangled him to death.”

When Mansuri was found dead in the shop, Rehman was missing, leading the police to suspect his role in the murder. He was arrested while attempting to flee to his native place in Bihar.

Rehman has been booked for murder under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code. He was produced in a local court on Tuesday and remanded in police custody till January 21.
