Four unidentified men stopped a car and stole Rs 2.25 crore from a mutton supplier on the busy Sion-Panvel highway, in front of Turbhe police station. No arrests have been made in the case.

At 1.45 pm, Mohammed Arif Qureshi (23), a mutton supplier to Allana Cold Storage of Mafco area of Navi Mumbai, was driving to Nerul in his Honda City with his friend Mumtar.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Ashok Dudhe said: “Qureshi had withdrawn Rs 2.25 crore from the APMC branch of Union Bank in the wholesale market of Vashi. He was going to Nerul to make the payment to a client.”

When they reached Turbhe flyover, a Tavera overtook them and obstructed their lane. Qureshi was forced to hit the brakes. “Four men armed with iron rods and chilli powder smashed the car windscreen and window panes and attacked the duo,” said Dudhe. Qureshi received injuries on his hand.

The four men, aged between 25-30, fled with the bag containing the money.

The police are taking help from the RTO to trace the culprits.
