Mirela Raymond was rushed to the Cooper Hospital in a critical condition where she was declared dead on arrival.

According to the MIDC police, Mirela, who was a studying in junior KG of Divine Child High School, stayed in the building next to Gurunanak School, at Chakala junction in Andheri (East). Mirela was crossing the road with her mother Sunita at 10.15 am when Sunita saw a private bus speeding and due to panic started running.

“Sunita suffered minor injuries. However, Mirela came under the front wheels of the bus,” said Police Inspector B. Gurav of MIDC police station.

The driver of the bus, Shankar Sushil Das (27), who had fled immediately after the accident, later surrendered before the police.

Mirela has two elder sisters —Jenita, who is studying in Class 2 and Natalia in Class 4 of the same school.

Her father Michael is employed with DCB Bank and Sunita works in a private firm in Andheri (East).

Felix David, a close friend of Raymonds, said, “Mirela was a very sweet and mischievous girl. She used to always make everyone around her laugh with her mischief.”

Senior Inspector Deepak Bagve of MIDC police station, said, “Das was not under the influence of alcohol. But we have booked him for causing death due to rash and negligent driving.”
