At around 1.35am, there was a massive explosion at the industrial compound of an aluminum casting unit near the Shivami temple on Khairani Road, police said. Rescue operations went on for nearly 14 hours.
The three injured are recuperating at the Rajawadi Hospital. Two of them are labourers at Mahi industries, the suspected site of the explosion, and are in a critical condition, with 95% burns.
The police suspect that the pressure inside the machine in which the aluminum casting was done was too high, resulting in the blast, but investigations are on. An officer said they will take the help of an expert to verify this.
The deceased have been identified as Sauka Patel, 65, his daughter Bharti, 35, son Ganesh, 25, and granddaughters Neha, 15 and Manisha, 13. Patel’s son Mangesh, 25, who is out of danger, was the only person in the hutment to have survived.
