The five suspects are aged between 13-15 years and are residents Kannamwar Nagar area. Their lanky frames helped them get into the houses through narrow entrances, the police said.

They were picked up by the police on Sunday and were later taken to the Dongri Children’s home as they are all minors.

Assistant police inspector A Kakad from Vikhroli police station said: “The teenagers targeted houses in the area as they knew the locality well. Once the target was decided, they would break into the house through narrow entrances like split windows. Since all of them are lanky, they could get into the houses easily.”

Kakad said they had received a tip-off that the group was involved in a couple of the house break-ins in the locality. “On sustained interrogation, they admitted to eight break-ins.”

The officer added, “In one of the thefts that they had committed in the first week of November, they stole gold and cash worth Rs 80,000.”
