According to a senior crime branch officer, Palande and his associates Dhananjaya Shinde and Manoj Gajkosh drove up to Kumbharli ghat and dumped the bags carrying Kakkad’s dismembered body in a ridge, adjacent to hotel Hill View.

The trio then drove to Pune and stayed in a hotel for the next two days. On March 8, they went to the Kondhwa residence of Rahul Mane, brother-in-law of advocate Harshad Nimbalkar.

Mane told the police that Palande left the vehicle with him on March 9 saying that he was going aboard and didn’t have any place to park the car. However, the trio returned to Mumbai in a bus on the same day.

Following the discovery of the remains on Monday, a missing case has been converted into a case of homicide and Palande and his two associates have been booked for murder (IPC 302).
