A major dacoity attempt at a finance company was foiled in Kharghar after an alert businessman called the police. The police caught three of the dacoits, while five fled.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Ankush Shinde said, “Eight men came to the company [Manappuram General Finance and Leasing Ltd] on the pretext of mortgaging gold. They were armed with choppers and pistols. They were escaping with gold.”

A neighbouring mobile shop owner, Sayed Khan, noticed the action and informed the police. The locals helped the police nab the accused. “We managed to get some of the gold looted by them,” added Shinde.
