They said Nafisa Pirani, a housewife, lived in the Jai Ambe colony at Achol Road in Nalasopara (East) with her husband, Pyareali, 38, her father-in-law, Feroz, 72, mother-in-law, Mehtab, 70, brothers-in-law Rehman, 45, and Ramzan, 42, her sister-in-law, Farida, 42, and her mother-in-law’s sister, Khairunisa, 65.

According to Nafisa’s complaint, between April and November last year, her in-laws allegedly started torturing her for dowry. “Nafisa stated that her husband and in-laws asked her to get Rs 3 lakh from her parents and when she refused to do so they mentally and physically harassed her,” said senior inspector Pradip Gosavi of Andheri police station.

Nafisa, the police said, is currently with her parents at Raja Nagar in Andheri (East).

The police, meanwhile, have filed a case against seven persons under the Indian penal Code (IPC) Sections 498A for dowry harassment. The accused, the police said, are, however, absconding.

“Our investigation is in progress. We have dispatched police teams to trace the accused. They should be nabbed soon,” said Gosavi.
