The 30-year-old woman who had attempted suicide by leaping from her parents’ fourth floor flat in Manish Nagar, Andheri on Wednesday is in a critical condition at Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital.
“The woman underwent a spine surgery on Thursday. She was kept on ventilator overnight. Her condition is critical but stable. She is being observed in the intensive care unit,” said Dr Ram Narain, chief operating officer, Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital.
“She has sustained multiple fractures and grievous injuries to the head. She is conscious but not in a position to talk. Hence we have not recorded her statement so far,” said Vijay Bhoite, senior inspector of DN Nagar police station.
The DN Nagar police said they have not registered a case so far.
The police said that the woman had been in a state of shock and had slipped into depression after seeing her friend, Vishal Gambhir, leaping from his rented 18th floor apartment in Goregaon on Monday. Gambhir, who used to work with a well-known multinational bank, was reportedly frustrated as he could not marry her, the police said. “We did not bother the woman after recording her statement as she was in a bad state of mind,” said a police officer from Aarey Sub police station.
Meanwhile, the woman’s husband told the police that he was not aware that his wife and Gambhir knew each other and wanted to get married. It is
only after the incident and the media reports that he found out about it.
