Avinash Mishra, 31, was arrested from near a hotel in Oshiwara, Andheri (West), by the Juhu unit of ATS. The ATS claimed he was in Mumbai to supply arms to Chhota Rajan gang members.

Mishra was arrested in 2008 from Gorakhpur, UP, for killing a man over a property dispute. "In jail, he met one Sushilkumar Pandey alias Bhutan Pandey from Sivan in Bihar," said Rakesh Maria, additional director general of police and ATS chief. "Pandey is in contact with Chotta Rajan and supplies arms to his gang," he said.

During inquiry, ATS found that Mishra had also attempted to kill a local politician of Sivan at Pandey's behest in 2009. Then he shifted to Gujarat, where he stayed inVapi and Porbander. "He would regularly visit Ambernath and Mumbai. We are finding out the reason behind his frequent trips," said Maria. Mishra has been remanded to ATS's custody until February 2.
