The incidents of attempted murder have increased considerably in the city said the police. They blame it on the impatience and anger in the citizens that is leading to a rise in such cases.
According to a senior crime branch officer who requested anonymity, because he is not authorised to speak to the media said in most of the attempted murder cases that have taken place recently, there is either no motive at all or a very trivial issue that leads to grievous consequences.
“Life in metropolitan cities is very hectic. People have become restless and impatient. Hence even a minor scuffle sometimes leads to major tiff resulting in gory incidents,” the officer said.
The police said several incidents of attempted murder are committed on an impulse.
“People do not think before reacting these days. This can be blamed on the competitive lives that we lead. It can also be blamed on the psychological reasons because many people who face problems at home and at the workplace vent their frustration at unknown people over trivial matters,” said Jaywant Hargude, assistant commissioner of police (crime branch).
The police added that the rise in the number of attempt to murders could also be due serious implementation of section under the Indian Penal Code.
“Earlier the charges of attempted murders were hardly slapped on the accused unless the injured person was very critical,” added Hargude.
“The accused would mostly be booked under voluntarily causing hurt with dangerous weapons or means (section 324).
However, now attempt to murder (section 307) charge is slapped in a case which has enough evidence to prove that the person had intention of grievous harm to the other,” he said.
