Veteran Lavani singer Sulochana Chavan was honoured with the Lata Mangeshkar Award for the year 2010.
The award, instituted by the Maharashtra government was presented to her by chief minister Prithviraj Chavan on Friday night. It comprises a cash prize of Rs two lakh, a citation and a memento.
Chavan said the folk art should not be restricted to entertainment, but also for creating social awareness. “The art form should be a movement that should reach across the globe. The responsibility for this lies with the entire society,” he said.
