The police said the incident happened around 11.30 am near Agarkar Chowk bus depot.

“The bus driver, A. Kadam (37) was trying to avoid hitting an autorickshaw and applied the brakes. But the brakes failed. He saw 30 autorickshaws standing nearby and to avoid them steered towards the pillar,” said a BEST official, requesting anonymity. The passengers only felt a jerk, the police said.
