Kamlakar Gopal Sawant, 47, was riding pillion on Sanjay Manjrekar’s Bajaj Pulsar when the accident took place. Manjrekar, 42, suffered minor injuries and is undergoing treatment at Sion hospital, the Pant Nagar police said.

According to the police, around 3.30pm, when Manjrekar and Sawant were approaching the junction of Eastern Express highway and Andheri-Ghatkopar road, they were hit by BEST bus (route no. 509). The duo was heading to Manjrekar’s Bhandup residence.

“As a result of the push, both flung off the bike. Sawant, who was riding pillion, sustained serious injuries on his head whereas Manjrekar hurt his shoulder,” said sub-inspector K Kadam from Pant Nagar police station.

They were taken to the Rajawadi Hospital where Sawant was declared dead on arrival. After being given the basic first-aid, Manjrekar was taken to Sion hospital. SM Suryavanshi, senior inspector, said that Manjrekar would be discharged soon.

Sawant and Manjrekar were employed at the Naval dock at Mazagaon. Sawant’s family reside in Pune. They came to the city late on Monday.
