BEST to create more parking space for buses

The space-starved Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) will soon get more parking space for its fleet of 4,700 buses. The administration is in the process of completing work on one depot as well as two bus stations that will be able to accommodate at least 150 buses.

These bus stations are called ‘satellite parking lots’ and the first of these was opened at Hiranandani a fortnight ago. The parking lot can accommodate around 20 buses. “This bus station will take the load off Majas and Vikhroli bus depots,” said OP Gupta, general manager, BEST. Similarly, the BEST is developing bus stations at Kandarpada near Dahisar and Chincholi bunder in Malad.

The bus station with a canteen and office building at Kandarpada can take care of 30 buses at once. It will be ready in two months and has been given to a private party on build, operate and transfer basis. They will also developing a huge bus depot at Chincholi bunder that will take care of more than 100 buses at a time.
