Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) corporator Bhalchandra Shirsat has questioned the move of the administration to allot a civic training centre building to Pawar Public School at Chandivli in Powai.
The school is run by Supriya Sule, Lok Sabha MP and daughter of NCP chief Shard Pawar.“How can the BMC administration directly allot a building without consent from the education committee or civic general body?” asked Shirsat, who is also chairman of the civic improvements committee.
Shirsat raised the question after he received a complaint from PF Murthy, secretary of Hillside Cooperative Housing Society at Chandivli.
A private builder had constructed the school building inside the society at Raheja Vihar complex, two years ago after availing concessions in development control rules.
Sule said that her trust has taken the building to run a school on a temporary basis for the next six to eight months. “We have taken 15 classrooms of the building on rent. Instead of paying Rs1,000 a month per room, we are paying the BMC Rs5,000,” said Sule.
She said the BJP should not politicise the issue, as this is the question of the education of 500 children. “We will shift our students to other building in six to eight months. The issue of our school building will soon be solved.”
