Kehimkar, 52, general manager for programmes at BNHS, was returning to his Kharghar home from a nature trail organised by the society in Thane. To avoid a vehicle ahead, the bus crossed over the divider on to the other side of the road and hit the BNHS vehicle.

They were rushed to Mahatma Gandhi Mission Hospital at Belapur. Kehimkar, who is out of danger, was operated for severe leg fractures. He will be in hospital for a week. The driver is critical. An FIR was filed at the Belapur police station.

“The impact of the collision was such that the BNHS vehicle was crushed from the front,” said Asad Rehmani, BNHS director. “The driver sustained severe fractures, including serious injury on the head.”
