Anil Cherian, 43-year-old Bollywood costume designer, allegedly drowned in a well inside Fonseca Resort at Gorai Village.

The Gorai police in Borivli registered a case of accidental death on Monday.

The deceased was attending a party organised by his employee’s cousin, said police.

The party began on Saturday night.

“Among those who attended the part included the 19-year old employee, her cousin and eight other male friends. After Cherian confirmed with her that he was also invited to the party, he took a train to Mira Road to make it to the venue” said an inspector of Gorai police

Police say that Cherian sent an SMS to his wife to tell her that he would be attending the party.

According to the police, he was picked up by one of the male invitee’s on his motor bike from outside Mira Road station. The group got drunk during the celebration.

Later, at around 3.30am, Cherian left from the room with his mobile phone and did not return for a long time.

The other revellers felt that he might have left for home. But after Cherian failed to turn up home, his family began a search inside the resort with others.

However, the search did not yield any results.

Subsequently, his wife lodged a missing person’s complaint with the police.

Eventually, his body was discovered while one of the resort’s employees was drawing water from the well. After officials were informed, his corpse was fished out from the well, which police say is located only a few metres from the room.

The police said they are checking his phone records and making inquiries with the youngsters, who had attended the party.

While officials suspect that Cherian might have accidentally fallen in the well, they are also probing if there is any foul play in the incident.

The officials added that Cherian stayed at Juhu Tara Road with his wife and was working on a film called Bold Bollywood, inspired from the life of actor Jiah Khan who committed suicide earlier this year. His medical report is pending and his viscera has been sent for chemical analysis. Further probe is underway.
