A vigilant citizen helped the LT Marg police nab two people who had allegedly robbed a jewellery-making unit at Bhuleshwar on Monday night.
Police said an employee of a gold jewellery unit was at a bar when he heard two people, later identified as Munna Adhikari and Saddam Ali, brag about the theft they had committed a few hours ago.
The police said the person heard the accused discussing how they, along with four accomplices, had robbed gold worth Rs 3 lakh from a jewellery-making unit in the busy Bhuleshwar market.
“The man called the police as soon as he overheard their discussion. We arrested Adhikari and Ali from the bar immediately,” senior inspector of police, Arun Borude, said.
The police said the incident occurred at 10 pm on Monday night at the gold jewellery manufacturing unit at Panchayat Wadi.
The employees of the unit were busy with work when six people barged into the workshop with pistols, knives and choppers and allegedly assaulted six employees.
The accused took 190 grams of gold and fled. Local residents caught one of them when he was attempting to escape. The man, later identified as Bappa Kharat, was handed over to the police.
After the robbery, Adhikari and Ali went to a bar at Gamdevi to celebrate.
This is where the employee of another jewellery unit heard them talk about the robbery and informed the police.
The police seized a toy pistol and some knives and choppers from the three robbers.
They also recovered 40 grams of raw gold from the accused.
The police discovered that Adhikari had planned the robbery when he was serving a prison sentence for another robbery he had committed in 2008 at a gold polishing unit in the same locality.
The police are looking for the three accomplices who escaped.
