“While working on social development, we found that most people are ignorant about India as a democracy and constantly criticise the country,” said Vinita Singh, founder trustee, We, the People.

Citizen Café, that will be conducted at colleges, companies and cafés, is part of a pan-India initiative called Constitution Connect.

The social awareness campaign will be spread across two months—between November 26 (the day the Constitution was enacted) and January 26 (the day it was enforced).

In Mumbai, the first session will be held on November 26 at KC College, Churchgate followed by a second session on November 29 at Jaihind College, Churchgate.

“The entire approach is very informal, in a coffee shop kind of atmosphere, to help people participate and be active in a democracy without being conscious,” said Namitha Barhadath, Jai Hind student and volunteer.

Apart from Mumbai, more than 20 Citizen Cafes will be held across seven Indian cities.

Those wanting to be a part of Citizen Café at KC or Jaihind college can register on vinitasinghsns@gmail.com or barhadath.n@gmail.com.
