On Tuesday, several city-based citizen groups met to formulate a three-point plan in order to ensure that in the run up to the Development Plan of 2014, all identified errors and discrepancies were tackled.

“There was general consensus among the participants that to ensure that, we continued exercising pressure on the civic authorities. For this purpose, we have also decided to approach the standing committee and later, meet the municipal commissioner to ensure that citizens’ suggestions are considered,” said Pankaj Joshi, executive director, Urban Design Research Institute (UDRI).

Since September 2012, HT has been carrying a series of reports on the discrepancies identified in the Existing Land Use (ELU) plan, which compelled civic authorities to invite citizens' suggestions and objections before finalising it.

However, citizens demanded more clarity.

“There are several questions that the authorities do not have answers for. We need to adopt a solution-based approach in order to tackle this issue,” said architect Nitin Killawala, who participated in the meeting.

The civic body has decided to upload the revised schedule of the DP revision process on its website soon.
