City cools down slightly, mercury to drop further in coming days

On Friday, the maximum temperature at Santacruz was 39 degree Celsius, 6.9 degrees above normal. At Colaba, the maximum temperature was 33.9 degree Celsius, 3.2 degrees above normal.

According to the weather forecast department, as the anti-cyclone conditions have started dissipating, temperatures are expected to drop further over the weekend. For the last one week, maximum temperatures in the city had shot up from 33 degrees to 40 degrees as anti-cyclone conditions trapped heat close to the surface, not allowing it to the escape into the atmosphere.

"The anti-cyclone conditions that prevailed over the Arabian Sea have started dissipating from Saturday. It has become weak and will weaken further, hence we expect the maximum temperature to drop to normal in the coming days," said VK Rajeev, director, India Meteorological Department (IMD), western region.

On Friday, the minimum temperature at Santacruz was 19.8 degree Celsius while at Colaba, it was 23.5 degree Celsius.

The relative humidity at Colaba was 60% and at Santacruz it was 23%.

The IMD has predicted that on Saturday, the maximum temperature will be 38 degree Celsius and the minimum temperature will be 21 degree Celsius.
