City student wins young environmental leaders' award

A city student was one of four international winners of a young environmental leaders' awards competition held in Germany last November, the results of which were announced last week.

Vaibhav Tidke, a second year masters student of the Institute of Chemical Technology, Matunga, was one of two representatives from India at the Bayer Young Environmental Entrepreneur Awards held in Leverkusen in Germany.

His project focuses on developing low cost, solar energy based technologies that harness local knowledge and local resources.

“It was a privilege to be part of BYEE 2010 and represent India on an international forum. The programme has helped me strengthen my commitment towards the environment,” said Tidke, in a press release.
