Constable's wife commits suicide in Goregaon
A police constable's wife hanged herself from the ceiling fan at the Teen Dongri police quarters in Goregaon (west) on Monday.
According to the police, Priyanka Kardekar (33) committed suicide, as she was upset and disturbed because of her son’s disability.
Kardekar, wife of constable Vilas was attached to the traffic police but was recently transferred to the Local Arms (LA) unit."Monday was Vilas's first day on duty at the LA department," said Ramchandra Ahire, assistant commissioner of police.
"When Kardekar’s two daughters Nikita and Punita, returned from their tuition classes and did not receive any response to their repeated knocks on the door, they raised an alarm," he added.
After 10 minutes their elder brother Sushmit (15), opened the door. The girls entered the house and saw their mother hanging in the living room.
The girls informed their neighbours who informed Vilas and the Goregaon police about the incident.
A police officer investigating the case said that there was no suicide note found.
"We tried asking the victim’s son about the incident but since he is mentally challenged, he could not say anything. We will now speak to the girls and Vilas," said an officer from the Goregaon police station.
"Sushmit was in the house when Kardekar hanged herself so it is possible that he witnessed his mother’s death. We will speak to him by sign language or show him pictures to see if he can shed some light on the incident," said the police officer investigating the case.
