Cop seeks dept’s aid for bypass surgery

An Assistant Sub-Inspector facing health problems due to his 130 kg weight has sought the help of police department to control his obesity and wants to undergo a gastric bypass surgery, which is not covered under the Police Welfare Scheme.

An Assistant Sub-Inspector facing health problems due to his 130 kg weight has sought the help of police department to control his obesity and wants to undergo a gastric bypass surgery, which is not covered under the Police Welfare Scheme.

As this surgery is not covered under the Welfare Scheme, Nagpada Police Hospital, which treats policemen and their family members, is now mulling to write to Police Chief D. Sivanandan to consider this as a special case.

Over-weighing Anant Avhad (50), attached with Local Arms department, said he was worried as his spinal cord discs were also damaged duo to his obesity problems.

“I need help of police hospital as I could not afford the treatment in a private hospital. My liver has also got affected. I sought the help of doctors and police department so that I can live a normal life,” said Avhad.
