Cops bust oil-smuggling racket in Vashi

The Navi Mumbai police arrested Feroze Khan, 28, Mohammed Pathan, 32, Naeem Khan, 27, and Maleswar Singh, 40, for trying to smuggle oil and have seized 7,000 litres worth Rs 10 lakh and the boat in which it was brought. G Mohiuddin Jeddy reports.

Fishermen along the Vashi creek noticed the suspicious movement of a boat on Sunday and informed the Vashi police. The police reached the spot and chased the boat. When the boat did not stop, the police threatened to open fire, which finally led to the capture of the men.

Vashi senior inspector Raosaheb Sardesai, “Investig-ations reveal the men came from the Yellow Gate area of Mumbai.”
