Cops to crack down on city’s security agencies

A day after Hindustan Times exposed lax security conditions and unlicensed guards at housing societies following the murder of a Mumbai lawyer, allegedly by her watchman, the Mumbai police have announced a crackdown on errant security agencies.

A day after Hindustan Times exposed lax security conditions and unlicensed guards at housing societies following the murder of a Mumbai lawyer, allegedly by her watchman, the Mumbai police have announced a crackdown on errant security agencies.

“A crackdown will now begin to determine which security agencies are functioning without the requisite licences,” said joint commissioner of police (administration) Hemant Nagrale. “We will also investigate if agencies with valid licenses are adhering to their licence conditions.”

Sources said the police might also review licensing terms and conditions for security agencies.

Pallavi Purkhayastha was allegedly murdered by one of 21 watchmen appointed by her Wadala housing society through security agency AH Enterprises, which had failed to verify even his residential address.
