CBI, which took over the probe in December last year following directions from the Bombay High Court, registered a case of abetment of suicide under section 306 of IPC against Bhatia.

The actress in her discharge plea has stated there is no evidence against her and that even the police had given her a clean chit after investigations.

According to CBI, Singh had an extramarital affair with Bhatia. "The affair was causing discord with his wife Anuradha. Kunal was also upset as Bhatia was forcing him to leave his wife and marry her," CBI counsel Bharat Badami had told the court.

On February 6, 2008, Singh committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling of his residence in Oshiwara.

Principal sessions judge ML Tahalayani will pass his order on the plea on October 20.
