Currently, commuters are allowed to use only the concourse of the suburban station and the terminus, not the main building, which is the central railway (CR) headquarters.

The area’s restricted status ensured that many visitors were unaware of the heritage structures within the building.

The railways have constructed a special lounge on the second floor from which visitors will be allowed to photograph the main line.

Visitors will also be provided information about the history and legacy of the building.

“They will be shown the heritage staircase, gallery, a lounge and the view from the second floor. We will not charge extra for bringing a camera to the building,” said Subodh Jain, general manager CR.

The CR will formally open the building on Friday. Students will be charged an entry fee of Rs100 while adults will be charged Rs.200.

The entry tickets will be sold at special counters opposite the Brihanmumbai Electricity Supply and Transport (BEST) undertaking depot nearby.
