Crane collapse kills 2 at Mulund

Two labourers were killed when a portion of a crane, loaded with cement blocks, collapsed from the third floor of an under-construction building at Mulund on Monday.

Two people were also injured in the accident.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 7) Sanjay Shintre said: “The incident occurred at an under-construction Tirumala building, near Zozwala petrol pump on Lal Bahadur Shastri (LBS) Marg in Mulund (West) around 4.45 pm.”

Manoj Chavan, Devi Khetav, Ranjeet Padicha and Dhananjay (last name not known) were working on the ground floor of the under-construction building when the crane filled

with cement blocks crashed on them.

Chavan and Khetav were killed while Padicha and Dhananjay were severely injured and have been admitted to a hospital.

Senior Police Inspector PB Landge from the Mulund police station, said: “The crane that was filled with cement blocks was on the third floor of the building. The victims were working on the ground floor. The crane had lifted the debris off the ground till the third floor when due to some malfunctioning it came down and overturned on the labourers thereby seriously injuring them”.

“We are taking down the statements of people those who witnessed the incident. Depending on that, we will decide if anyone has to be booked in the case,” added Landge.
