Customs seize 34,500 memory cards

The Air Intelligence Unit of Mumbai Customs foiled a smuggling attempt by seizing 34,500 memory cards worth Rs 1.29 crore after it arrived by courier from Hong Kong.

The Air Intelligence Unit of Mumbai Customs foiled a smuggling attempt by seizing 34,500 memory cards worth Rs 1.29 crore after it arrived by courier from Hong Kong.

The consignment was declared as mobile phone accessories showing value of only Rs 9,500. It was brought into the country as a gift. During screening, authorities noticed memory cards. B.S. Nunwal, additional commissioner of Customs (AIU), said the memory cards packed in a cardboard box, came by Jet Airways flight number 9W-075 on June 10 at the courier terminal of the city’s international airport.

The courier was in the name of J.J. Ent, shown as situated in BMC Market, Vile Parle (W). The sender of the consignment was shown as S.I. Telecom in Hong Kong.
