The hoarding also had pictures of brave and successful women in Indian history along with those of Nationalist Congress Party leaders, including Sharad Pawar.

When Thane MP Sanjeev Naik was contacted for his comments on the use of the picture on the hoarding, he said, “I am in Delhi and have no clue about it. If it has been put up by any of our party workers, even if to salute the brave woman, it is wrong.

“The picture of the rape victim should not have been used anyway as it is against norms. I will ensure the hoarding is removed immediately.”

It was removed on Wednesday.
