Drunk driver crushes 7-year-old boy to death

A seven-year-old boy was killed after being hit by a Tata Indica near Teen Petrol Pump in Thane (west) on Monday night. Omkar Jhagde died on the spot while his mother Reshma (30) and sister Akshatha (10) suffered injuries.

Omkar Jhagde died on the spot while his mother Reshma (30) and sister Akshatha (10) suffered injuries.

The Naupada police have arrested Dilip Yadav (32), Surajbali Prajapath (29) and the driver Ravi Shirsath (22). All of them were in an inebriated condition.

Onlookers pelted stones at the vehicle and beat up the driver and the occupants of the car.

“I lost control while taking a turn near the Teen Petrol Pump signal and hit them,” said Shirsath, who was admitted to Thane Civil Hospital. He was discharged on Tuesday and will be produced before the court on Wednesday.

Yadav and Prajapath, who were produced in the local court on Tuesday, have been remanded to police custody till Wednesday.
