Drunk driver runs over 74-year-old at Vile Parle

A senior citizen, who was on his morning walk, was hit by a speeding Santro. The driver has been arrested

A drink-driving accident killed a 74-year-old man at Vile Parle (East) on Friday. The senior citizen, who was on his morning walk, was hit by a speeding Santro. The driver has been arrested.

The police said Prakash Vaikar was on his morning walk around 6.30am on Tejpal scheme road, when he was knocked down by the car driven by Kailash Sati, 37. Vaikar suffered a head injury and was rushed to Cooper hospital, where he was declared dead.

Sati, who works as a driver, was taken to VN Desai Hospital for a medical test where he was found to be under the influence of alcohol.

He has been booked under sections 279, 304 A, 427 of the Indian Penal code (IPC) and 185 of the Motor Vehicle Act, which include rash driving, death due to negligence and drink driving.

The police said Vaikar used to worked at Parle G and is survived by his wife and two sons. Police sub-inspector Savita Savda said Sati will be produced before a magistrate’s court on Saturday.

Just earlier this month, adman Indrajit Nattoji had knocked down and killed a senior citizen and his grandson Oshiwara allegedly under the influence of alcohol.
