RTI activist Ashish Kori had earlier this year filed a public interest litigation against home minister RR Patil and director general of police Sanjeev Dayal, urging a special team of

CBI officials to carry out a probe into the riots in Sangli and surrounding areas.

The recent application states that Patil did not take stern action in the case, despite being the then home minister.

It states that Patil’s addition would cause no harm to the present parties in the case.

The main accused in the case, Moinuddin Shamsuddin Bagwan, is seen at various social and public functions with Patil, states the petition.

He was also given a Nationalist Congress Party ticket in the recently-held Sangli municipal corporation elections.

The case will come up for hearing on July 26, said Kori’s advocate Ashish Mehta.
