In July 2004, actor Preeti Jain had filed a complaint alleging that promising marriage and role in his film, Bhandarkar had raped her on several occasions between 1999 and 2004. Bhandarkar had then refuted the allegations.
Finding substance in Jain’s complaint, an Andheri metropolitan court had directed Bhandarkar to face trial in September 2011. Subsequently, Bhandarkar moved the HC alleging that the order was an abuse of the process of law. The HC, on March 22, rejected his plea.
“In Tuesday’s hearing, Bhandarkar’s advocate mentioned that they are preparing to move the SC. The case has been adjourned till April 10,” said Jain’s lawyer S Kunjuraman.
