FIR against producer, director for hurting religious sentiments

The Bandra police, on Wednesday, registered a complaint against the producer, director and writer of the recently released film Kya Super Kool Hain Hum after members of the Christian Minority Committee complained to the police that certain scenes in the film outraged their religious sentiments.

According to the police, Joseph Dias, a Bandra resident and president of Christian Minority Committee, filed the complaint stating that a Christian priest was portrayed in a derogatory manner in the film.

“We have registered a case against the producer, director and writer of the film under Indian Penal Code Sections 295A for deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings and Section 34, for common intent,” said Pratap Dighavkar, zonal deputy commissioner of police, adding that no specific names have been mentioned in the first information report (FIR).

“We are investigating into the matter. Arrests will be made if we find that the film producer, director and writer are guilty,” said Abhay Shastri, senior inspector, Bandra police station.

As per section 295A of the Indian Penal Code, whoever, with deliberate and malicious intention of outraging the religious feelings of any class of citizens of India, by words – either spoken or written, or by signs or by visible representations or otherwise, insults the religion or religious beliefs of that class, shall be punished with imprisonment of upto three years, or with fine or both.

Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum is a comedy starring Tusshar Kapoor and Riteish Deshmukh that released on July 27. It is directed and written by Sachin Yardi, and produced by Ekta Kapoor and Shobha Kapoor.
