Fire brigade rescues couple at sea

Both are residents of Sakinaka. While the 21-year-old youth is pursuing BSc (IT) from Somaiya College in Vidya Vihar, the 19-year-old girl is a SYBCom student from a college in Parel.

The youth said they came to Bandstand around 11 am. He added that both of them found that other couples had left and they had been surrounded by the rising tide. “I shouted at a man to help us out. He said the water would recede by 1 pm.”

With the water showing no signs of receding, the youth said: “I then sent an SOS call to the fire brigade control room for help, after failing to get through the police control room.”

Police officials said the fire brigade officials rescued the couple.

The officials added that this was the first time in the last six-seven months that such an incident had taken place at Bandstand. “The duo’s parents have been summoned to inform about their wards,” senior police inspector Prakash George of Bandra police station said.
