Grover case: State’s appeal admitted

The state government’s appeal, which seeks to enhance the punishment awarded to Kannada actress Maria Susairaj and her ex-fiancé Emile Jerome Mathew for allegedly murdering TV executive Neeraj Grover in 2008, was admitted by the Bombay high court on Wednesday. A division bench of justice VM Kanade and justice AM Thipsay admitted the appeal.

In its appeal, the state challenges the Mumbai sessions court’s verdict on June 29, which acquitted Susairaj and Jerome of the murder charge. The state wants that Jerome be also booked under section 201 (destruction of evidence) of the IPC and that Susairaj be re-arrested.
