Nineteen years after she first requested for a plot in Versova to set up a dance academy, actor and BJP MP Hema Malini could soon be allotted an adjoining.
On Tuesday, Malini met revenue minister Eknath Khadse and requested him to clear the proposal.
In 1996, the Sena-BJP government in the state had given the actor a plot for an institute dedicated to music, dance and art. However, Malini could not use the land because it was locked under coastal regulatory zone (CRZ) norms. The actor then requested for a new plot, after the government used a part of the first one for a garden.
“We are positive the proposal is for a good cause,” said Khadse, after meeting the actor.
“It [the proposal] has come to me only now. She requested for an adjoining plot measuring 20,000sqft in exchange for the one that has been reserved under CRZ norms,” he said, adding the actor’s proposal is in the final stages of getting approved.
“For 19 years, I pursued the matter with chief ministers Vilasrao Deshmukh, Sushilkumar Shinde and Prithviraj Chavan.
I want the school to be a platform for children to learn and perform classical dance. I am confident I will get the land from this government,” the actor said.
