Sydney Pereira had injuries on his forehead and the police suspect he had been murdered.

Pereira, a resident of Amboli, had left his residence on Tuesday on his motorcycle without informing his wife. A passer by found his body lying close to his bike and informed the police.

“The bike is registered on the name of one Shambhu Bhanushali (45) who is Pereira’s close friend,” said an official.

Pereira had bought the bike on a loan under Bhanushali’s name.

Bhanushali, who last met Pereira on Monday said, “Pereira used to wear a lot of gold ornaments. However, when his body was found, there wasn’t a single ornament on him and his cell phone was missing.”

Pereira’s body has been sent to Cooper Hospital for post-mortem, the police said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (zone X) Prakash Mutyal said, “We have registered a case of murder against an unidentified person.”

Pereira is survived by his wife, a 19-year-old daughter and an 11-year-old son.
