‘Jail officials’ responsibility to stop fights’

Taking note of the increasing number of fights between prisoners in jails, Home Minister RR Patil said police prison officials and workers will be held responsible for failing to maintain law and order in jails.

Taking note of the increasing number of fights between prisoners in jails, Home Minister RR Patil said police prison officials and workers will be held responsible for failing to maintain law and order in jails.

In July this year, gangster Mustafa Dossa had attacked underworld don Abu Salem inside the Arthur Road jail.

Patil took the decision in a meeting with other home department officials, where they discussed prison conditions in Maharashtra. Apart from asking them to maintain a strict regime, Patil also told the officials to initiate filling up vacant posts in all the jails.
