The first attempt was on October 22. The victim’s husband and accused Jiten Dedhia informed co-accused Hasruddin Malik and Mohammad Nazim Khan that Beena would at Dadar at 3 pm. The plan failed because Beena visited the market earlier.

The next attempt was on October 26 when the couple was at an ice-cream parlour in Matunga. The plan was aborted because the parlour was crowded. The plan to murder Beena at home was aborted when her sister-in-law and co-accused, Rupal Chheda (39), objected saying that Dedhia’s parents could also get injured.

Chheda was present when Dedhia struck a deal with the assailants. She also conducted a recce of the spot where Beena was finally murdered, police said.
