A 27-year-old man allegedly killed his wife and 3-year-old son, then committed suicide late on Wednesday night.

The alleged killings happened between 10 pm and midnight at Malewadi in Sukhapur, Panvel. Amit Kudle, who lived on the second floor of building ‘B’ of Sakshi Park housing society, was found hanging in his flat by his younger brother, Ajit. The bodies of his wife Shamli (27) and Manthan were found on the bed.
Suresh Bhosle, senior police inspector at Panvel police station, said: “When Amit returned after midnight, nobody answered the door. He entered with a duplicate key and saw the bodies.”
Bhosle added that on the face of it, it appeared that Kudle gave sleeping pills to his wife and son, then killed himself.
Kudle operated a business renting tourist vehicles. His neighbours said the couple never fought. One of them, speaking on condition of anonymity, said: “They always seemed so much in love and were always smiling. They didn’t seem to have any financial problems either.”
The police do not have any theories so far. Bhosle said: “The motive for such an extreme act is not clear. They did not seem to have any problems – in fact, the photographs show they were really happy.”
Asked about a suicide note, Bhosle said: “We found a torn piece of paper with something scribbled on it – the writing is not very clear. We are still trying to decipher it”. The bodies were taken to Pune, on Thursday morning for the last rites.
