The recovery of a Mumbai police officer who allegedly shot himself with his service pistol in July, is nothing short of a miracle.

The bullet shot from under the chin travelled the entire length of his face, passed through his brain and exited from the skull, but left little apparent permanent damage to vital organs. A week ago, Chandrakant Mahajan, 42, started walking around in the hospital.
“If the bullet had travelled even in a slightly different direction, he might have lost his vision or developed neurological problems,” said Mahajan’s neurosurgeon Dr Amit Mahore.
