In the past, Raj had lauded the Gujarat chief minister for ushering in a new era of development in his state. He had criticised the Maharashtra Government for their lackadaisical attitude.

However, the Shiv Sena may not be very happy with this development. A few months ago, Sena leaders had started to fret when Raj visited the state Bharatiya Janata party (BJP) headquarters as a courtesy call.

The BJP has welcomed the move. “It is more of a study tour and not a political move by Raj,” said Arun Deo, BJP leader and former deputy mayor.

Raj was in Kalyan on Friday to take stock of the performance of his corporators, an election promise he had given to the electorate last year. “I am not completely satisfied with their work and am organising a workshop later this month,” he said.

He also warned contractors to finish their work within the given deadline or face the wrath of his party.
