Mobile towers: panel to study health risks

The state has set up a committee to study the health risks posed by cellphone towers atop residential buildings. Minister of State for Environment, Sachin Ahir said the committee headed by additional chief secretary health will include other officials from housing and environment department to work out new norms for such installations in the residential areas.

Minister of State for Environment, Sachin Ahir said the committee headed by additional chief secretary health will include other officials from housing and environment department to work out new norms for such installations in the residential areas.

He was replying to a question raised by the Opposition legislators over health risks. Ahir said that the committee would submit a report in three months recommending new norms for such installations.

Legislators had alleged that radiation caused by these towers can lead to several physical disorders and diseases.
