With the state government struggling to get the Metro system on track for Mumbai, here’s some good news.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) and the UK body, Transport for London (TFL), setting up a co-operative framework between the two authorities for development and operation of the mass transit system.

TFL operates London Underground Metro which is the world’s oldest and second largest service in terms of kilometres.
The MoU, which will facilitate an exchange of information for development of Metro in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), was signed in the presence of chief minister Prithviraj Chavan and David Waboso, director, capital programmes, TFL.
Rahul Asthana, commissioner of MMRDA, said: “The MoU signed with TFL will facilitate sharing of latest technology and expertise for Metro development and operation in the MMR.”
The MMRDA has planned eight metro corridors in the city and suburbs.SVR Shrinivas, additional commissioner of MMRDA, said:

“Information and expertise will be shared for the development of 150-km- long metro network in MMR.”

Cameron meets CM
Britain prime minister David Cameron, during his meeting with chief minister Prithviraj Chavan, on Monday, expressed a wish to invest in a big way in Mumbai and Maharashtra in the near future. Cameron was apprised of the ongoing infrastructure projects in Mumbai and industrial development of the state.

Chavan told Cameron that his government was committed to making Mumbai a world-class city.
